Saachi
Rose Ajmera is an Indian immigrant who arrived to the U.S. and noticed the lack of any or all of her native culture in the fashion industry here. This was the fuel behind the creation of Saachi in 2001. For the past 20 years, Rose has continually travelled back to India and also to China to find the best fabrics as well as the most innovative embroidery techniques that are on the verge of going unremembered by the entire world. Through her brand, Rose has very successfully done exactly what she set out to do in preserving diversity and honoring her cultural traditions and also sharing them with everyone of different cultures, which is so beautiful.
In addition to bringing her culture to the fashion world in the States it is also very important to Ajmera, and Saachi itself, to empower women across South Asia. In order to do this, Saachi started creating learning centers all across India and Nepal for these women to learn the art of crocheting. This mission has been able to give 200 Indian and Nepalese women the opportunity to support their families.
Saachi truly is a brand that has incredible morals and not only care deeply about a slew of different issues but also take steps to make changes and find solutions to these problems. For the past 20 years, Rose has continually travelled back to India and also to China to find the best fabrics as well as the most innovative embroidery techniques that are on the verge of going unremembered by the entire world. She visits small villages all around South Asia and China to find these techniques for embroidery and tapestry, in which they each have their very own version that has been passed down for centuries.
